DESCRIPTION

The aim of this programme is to bring together all aspects of the industry including Food and Beverage Services, Accommodation Operations and Services and Reception Operations and Services. The programme also looks at the various niche markets such as Guesthouses and Bed & Breakfast establishments, Casino Hotels, Spa’s, Boutique Hotels, Game Lodges and the Cruise Ship industry. Hospitality Management offers learners a challenging and

rewarding career with the prospect of working in very diverse environments – there is never a dull moment – and this philosophy has been carried over into this challenging programme. These City & Guilds Courses recognise the inherent global nature of today’s hospitality industries. They prepare learners with the foundational and practical competency required to work almost anywhere in the world. This programme includes practical workplace assessments in the industry.

DURATION

3 years full-time study:

1 year for the City & Guilds Level 1 IVQ Certificate in Food and Beverage Services (8066 01) and the City & Guilds Level 1 IVQ Certificate in Reception Services (8067-01)

1 year for the City & Guilds Level 2 IVQ Diploma in Food and Beverage Services (8066-01) and the City & Guilds Level 1 IVQ Certificate in Accommodation Services (8068-01)

1 year for the City & Guilds Level 2 IVQ Diploma in Reception Services (8067-02) and the City & Guilds Level 2 IVQ Diploma in Accommodation Services (8068-02)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Communication at NQF Level3/Grade 11 or equivalent.

Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level3/Grade 11 or equivalent.

Admission may be subject to an interview with an academic staff member.

LEARNER MATERIAL

All text books are excluded from the tuition fees. All Damelin learning manuals are included in the tuition fees. A list of textbooks will be provided by your nearest Damelin campus’ academic department.

ADDITIONAL COSTS

Learners are expected to make provision for the following item: Uniform, subject to quote from suppliers. All external exam fees are included for the first attempt; thereafter learners will be responsible for the payment of any reassessment to the relevant assessment bodies (e.g. City & Guilds).

WORKPLACE LEARNING (Year 1, 2 and 3)

This programme includes a compulsory Workplace Learning component. Workplace Learning provides important opportunities for professional and personal growth. It addresses specific competencies identified for the acquisition of the qualification, which relates to the development of skills that will make the learner employable and will assist in developing his/her personal skills.

CERTIFICATION

Year 1

 Upon successful completion of Year 1, the following external certificates will be awarded to the learner by the external provider:

City & Guilds Level 1 IVQ Certificate in Food and Beverage Service (8066),

City & Guilds Level 1 IVQ Certificate in Reception Services (8067),

The following certificates will be awarded to successful learners by the external providers:

Wine Theory Certificate.

First Aid Level 1 Certificate.

Year 2

Upon successful completion of Year 2, the following external certificates will be awarded to the learner by the external provider:

City & Guilds Level 2 IVQ Diploma in Food and Beverage Service (8066),

City & Guilds Level 1 IVQ Certificate in Accommodation Services (8068).

Year 3

Upon successful completion of Year 3, the following external certificates will be awarded to the learner by the external provider:

City & Guilds Level 2 IVQ Diploma in Reception Services (8067),

City & Guilds Level 2 IVQ Diploma in Accommodation Services (8068).

FURTHER STUDIES

**Whenever Damelin offers training towards a programme that will be awarded by another provider or institute, it is called an Agent Programme. In the case of an Agent Programme, Damelin registers the learners, provides tuition and conducts internal assessments. External examinations with the agent body will result in learners receiving the certificate from them.
